Welcoming Betty Lavallee – President of the Volunteer Association

Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH) are pleased to welcome Betty Lavallee as the new President of the Volunteer Association.
Betty was officially named President during the Association’s Annual General Meeting in June. She brings nine years of volunteer experience at NGH and a deep commitment to giving back. Her journey began in 2015 when she helped in the clothing area at Treasure Mart and immediately felt welcomed by the team.
Before retiring to Port Dover, Betty spent 32 years at Hallmark Cards Canada, most recently as Director of Consumer Solutions. She’s known for her leadership, people skills, and compassion. In her spare time, she enjoys family time—especially with her grandchildren—along with nature walks, music, gardening, boating, and winter getaways.
Serving as President in the Association’s 100th year is a special honour.
“It’s an amazing privilege and honour to be given this opportunity,” said Betty. “Hopefully, I can represent the association with integrity, show compassion and always be willing to lend a helping hand.”
Over the next two years, Betty’s focus is on supporting volunteers and ensuring a smooth transition to the Association’s new structure.
“Personally, I feel joy knowing that I can make a small difference in someone’s day and be a productive member of the community.”
We’d also like to thank Lois Craig, who served as President for the past two years and now continues as Past President.
Lois has been part of the NGH family for decades. She began working here in 1974 in switchboard and admitting, later retiring as Lab Secretary in 2014. With 32 years of volunteer service, Lois has been a steady presence and a strong supporter of patients, families, and staff.
“Lois has been an incredible role model and leader for our volunteers,” said Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer & Spiritual Care Services. “We’re grateful for her long-standing commitment and kindness. And we’re thrilled to welcome Betty — she brings genuine passion and purpose that will guide the Association forward.”
Volunteers are a driving force at NGH and NHNH. Whether offering a warm hello, helping someone find their way, or simply being present, they bring comfort, connection, and care. Please join us in welcoming Betty Lavallee and in thanking Lois Craig for her remarkable service.
