Therapeutic Recreation

Our scheduled recreational programs are categorized into five therapeutic domains; social, physical, intellectual, emotional & spiritual. Each domain has a set of goals & objectives to ensure that our residents are as fulfilled as possible, for their well-being.

Church Service:

• Interdenominational Services are offered weekly. Pastoral visits for residents can be arranged, upon request.

Daisy Readers:

• We have a large variety of digital audio books. Daisy readers are used as an audio substitute for print material, for residents who have impaired vision.

Entertainment:

• Large Screen Smart TV’s on each floor for Netflix Movie Matinee’s, the News, Game Shows, YouTube Videos & Sing Alongs. There are pianos on each level, to provide musical entertainment for our residents to enjoy.

Family Council Meetings:

• A Family Council is a group of family members and friends of the residents of a long-term care home, whom gather together for peer support, education, and to improve the experiences of all people whom reside in long-term care.

Games Area:

• A variety of games, cards, dice, puzzles, crosswords & word finds are readily available for residents to gather together for an entertaining afternoon or evening.

Hairdressing Services.

• Hair Salon & Barber Services are available once a week. Regular visits to the hairstylist comes with many benefits such as relaxation, social interaction & great looking hair!

Library:

• Fully stocked libraries on main & upper levels, with a large variety of small & large print books for reading pleasure.

Pet Therapy:

• This activity offers a great opportunity for trained volunteers to bring certified therapy pets into the facility for the residents to interact with. Holding a guinea pig or petting a dog or a cat can be very therapeutic for animal lovers, and may even draw residents whom may be a little reserved, out of their shells.

Residents Council Meetings:

• A Residents' Council is an independent, self-determining group made up of only residents of a long-term care home. The Council is intended and designed to form the collective voice of all residents who reside in the LTC home, whether or not they attend meetings. All residents have the right to participate in the Residents' Council.

Wheelchair Van:

• The wheelchair van is specifically used for NHNH recreational outings for our residents. Outings play a large role in the health and wellbeing of our residents. A time to reminisce, a chance for a sense of independence & a breath outdoor air; to be able to see changes taking place within the community & surrounding areas.
