The Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) Volunteer Association has generously donated $29,409 to address the highest-priority needs at NGH and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH). This remarkable contribution, raised through the Volunteer Association’s 50/50 draw and other fundraising initiatives, will help enhance patient care by replacing aging medical equipment and improving the overall patient experience.

“This donation directly supports our ability to provide high-quality healthcare close to home,” said Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer & Spiritual Care Services. “Investing in new equipment means better, more accurate care for our patients and families. Every dollar raised through the Volunteer Association makes a difference.”

A significant portion of the funds was raised through the Volunteer Association’s 50/50 draw, which awarded Ed Ventoso of La Salette, ON, a jackpot of $19,409 in November. Since its launch in 2023, the 50/50 draw has awarded more than $30,000 in prizes to winners while supporting essential needs at NGH and NHNH.

Additional revenue came from the Volunteer Association’s three hospital businesses—the Coffee Kiosk, the Craft Group, and the Gift Shop—as well as through several fundraising initiatives held throughout the year.

“We are so thankful for our incredible volunteers,” said Todd Stepanuik, President and CEO. “From the warm smiles that greet visitors at our doors to their efforts in fundraising, assisting patients, serving coffee, and so much more, our volunteers are truly the heart of NGH and NHNH. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them.”

NGH is proud to have one of the highest rates of volunteerism in Ontario, with over 17,000 volunteer hours contributed each year—equal to more than $500,000 in wages. The dedication of the Volunteer Association continues to make a lasting impact on the hospital and nursing home, ensuring they remain vital parts of the community.
