NORFOLK GENERAL HOSPITAL IN CODE GREY

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home entered into a Code Grey due to a hospital-wide interruption of our phone systems. A Code Grey refers to a disruption in information technology (I.T.) systems that affects some of the hospital’s clinical and administrative applications.

Our I.T. team is currently working to restore the phone systems. They have determined that the shutdown was caused by a power surge. The Emergency Department remains open and fully operational, and patients should proceed with their scheduled appointments unless contacted by NGH to reschedule.

We want to reassure our community that all current patients at NGH and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home continue to receive safe, high-quality care from our healthcare teams. The safety of patients and clients is our top priority, and we are working diligently to restore our phone service as soon as possible.

During this extended I.T. downtime, we are adding extra I.T. staff across the hospital and meeting regularly with clinical leaders and physicians to continuously reassess and provide updates on all units. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the public as we work through these challenges.

If your matter is urgent, please contact Norfolk General Hospital at 519-426-0750, or the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home at 226-931-6850.

Anyone requiring emergency health care treatment should call 911 or proceed to the emergency department.

We will provide further updates as the situation evolves and will formally announce when the Code Grey is over.
