Norfolk General Hospital appoints new Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer

Simcoe, ON – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) is pleased to announce that Amanda Sonnenberg will serve as its new Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer, effective February 27, 2026. She will also serve in this role at West Haldimand General Hospital.
Amanda is a Registered Nurse and health care leader who was selected following an extensive national recruitment process.
Raised in Norfolk County, Amanda was born at Norfolk General Hospital and continues to serve the community she proudly calls home.
Amanda brings nearly 20 years of experience in health care, including 15 years at Norfolk General Hospital. Her leadership experience spans palliative care, obstetrics, health information technology, community services, interprofessional practice, and the development of the COVID-19 Assessment Clinic, which she led in collaboration with community partners.
Amanda currently serves as Director of Medical, Rehabilitation, Nurse Practitioners, and Patient Flow, a role she has held since 2022. Her work focuses on quality of care, access, and safe transitions across the hospital and region. She has also led the implementation of the Nurse-Led Outreach Team and the Hospital-to-Home program.
Previously, Amanda served as Clinical Director of Obstetrics and the Medical and Surgical Inpatient Unit.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western University in 2006 and her Master of Health Studies from Athabasca University in 2021. She is a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
Amanda succeeds Kim Mullins, who is retiring after serving seven years as Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive and more than 17 years in leadership roles at the hospital. Kim’s guidance and commitment have had a lasting impact on both the organization and the people it serves. She has been a trusted mentor and a steady presence for staff across the hospital, and her leadership will be felt for years to come.
“Amanda stood out to our multidisciplinary hiring committee for her warmth, humility, and collaborative leadership style,” said Todd Stepanuik, President and Chief Executive Officer of NGH. “She brings a deep understanding of our hospital and our community, and I am pleased to congratulate her as she steps into this important leadership role. We are confident she will support and inspire our clinical teams while helping guide planning and decision-making. I also want to sincerely thank Kim Mullins for her many years of dedicated and selfless service to Norfolk General Hospital and West Haldimand General Hospital. Kim provided steady leadership, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and her dedication has had a lasting impact on our organization.”
“I am grateful for the opportunity to take on this role and for the trust and confidence placed in me to help lead our organization forward,” said Amanda Sonnenberg. “This is an important time for health care in our region. As we introduce new technology, programs, and services, I am proud to work alongside dedicated teams to improve care and support patients and families close to home.”
Amanda is passionate about advancing high-quality patient-centred care, supporting teams, strengthening interprofessional collaboration, and improving transitions in care.
“Amanda is a respected and trusted leader who consistently keeps the needs of patients and the community at the centre of her work,” said Dr. Robin Martin-Godelie, Chief of Staff. “Her experience and approach will serve the hospital and community well.”
Norfolk General Hospital thanks Kim for her service and wishes her all the best in her retirement.
