NGH welcomes Dr. Rupanjali Kundu as the hospital’s newest obstetrician-gynecologist
Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has made a monumental addition to the Labour and Delivery program through the recruitment of a permanent obstetrician-gynecologist – Dr. Rupanjali Kundu (Rupa). Dr. Kundu will officially begin her role on August 14, 2023.
Until now, birthing services have been safely provided via midwives and family physicians with specialized training, as well as surgeons and anesthetists when needed for cesarean sections and epidurals. In addition to providing obstetrical care, Dr. Kundu will offer specialized gynecological care to women in the community, increasing consistent access to this important service.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kundu to Norfolk General Hospital,” said Dr. Robin Martin-Godelie, Chief of Staff. “Her expertise and dedication to women’s healthcare will further strengthen our commitment to providing exceptional services to our community. Dr. Kundu’s arrival reflects our ongoing efforts to expand and enhance our amazing labour and delivery unit, ensuring women in the communities we serve have access to the best possible healthcare options.”
Dr. Kundu has over ten years of experience as an obstetrician-gynecologist. She earned her medical degree from the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital in India and completed her residencies in obstetrics and gynecology in Ireland.
Dr. Kundu comes to NGH from Toronto where she has been providing obstetrical and gynecological services at Mount Sinai Hospital and recently completed a Fellowship in Advanced Obstetrics.
“Norfolk General Hospital was the right fit for me, as it suits my practice the most,” said Dr. Kundu. “The staff are very supportive, and the hospital is at a suitable distance from where my family lives. I look forward to setting up my practice in Simcoe and exploring the community. I am eager to work with the dedicated staff, physicians and volunteers at NGH, and to strengthen the hospital’s many excellent programs and services.”
Since the obstetrical program was re-established at NGH in November of 2022, we have welcomed over 100 babies into the world. Our Labour and Delivery Unit brings approximately 340 infants into the world annually.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Kundu has chosen to join our team at NGH,” said Dr. Jamie Szabo, Chief of Obstetrics. “Her experience in obstetrics and gynecology will be a great addition to our hospital and will allow us continue providing high-quality, specialized healthcare for our patients and our community.”
We want to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Kundu and her family. She will be opening her practice at Roulson’s Pharmacy located at 65 Donly Drive North in Simcoe, ON. Patients seeking care for obstetric or gynecologic needs can be referred to Dr. Kundu by contacting their primary care provider or healthcare professional.
