NGH Volunteer Association starts new fiscal year with a $25,000 donation

After reaching fundraising totals not seen in nearly a decade, the Norfolk General Hospital Volunteer Association is already building momentum for another strong year.

On June 24, the Volunteer Association presented Norfolk General Hospital with a $25,000 cheque. It is the Association’s first donation of the 2026 to 2027 fiscal year.

Last year, the Volunteer Association donated $120,150 to NGH. It was their highest fundraising total since 2017.

This latest donation was raised through Treasures and Totes, along with three volunteer-run businesses at the hospital. These include the Craft Group, Gift Shop and Coffee Kiosk.

The funds will help support patient and resident care at NGH and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home. Donations from the Volunteer Association help the hospital and nursing home invest in equipment, services and supports that improve the care experience for patients and families.

“Our volunteers give so much to Norfolk General Hospital, both through the time they spend supporting patients, families and staff, and through their fundraising efforts,” said Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer and Spiritual Care Services at Norfolk General Hospital. “This $25,000 donation is a wonderful example of that commitment. We are grateful to our volunteers, staff and community members who continue to support the Volunteer Association and help strengthen patient care at NGH.”

The Volunteer Association includes more than 250 volunteers who support NGH and NHNH through service, fundraising and patient support.

The community is also encouraged to support this year’s 50/50 draw. Tickets are available at the hospital on Mondays and Fridays. Tickets can also be purchased at the Foundation office by cash only. Last year’s winner took home more than $22,000.

NGH thanks the Volunteer Association, hospital staff and community members for helping support care close to home.
