NGH receives provincial funding for Medical Gas System upgrades

SIMCOE, ON – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) is moving forward with important upgrades to its medical gas and vacuum systems—equipment that plays a key role in surgeries, emergency care, and everyday patient treatment.

These systems deliver oxygen and other medical gases that are essential for patient care. The current equipment has reached the end of its life and needs to be replaced. NGH is taking proactive steps to upgrade the system and keep care safe and reliable.

To help fund the project, the Ontario government is providing $808,000 through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF)—a one-time investment to support hospitals with needed repairs and improvements.

“We are very thankful for this support from the province,” said Dan Hill, Vice President – Finance & Chief Financial Officer of Norfolk General Hospital. “This upgrade will help us continue to provide safe, high-quality care for our patients.”

The funding allows NGH to move ahead without delay on a project that will benefit both patients and staff.

“Replacing these systems is an important part of maintaining the high standard of care our community expects,” said Jason Smith, Director of Facilities and Capital Projects at NGH. “This funding means we can complete the work without affecting hospital services or patient care.”

NGH has taken steps to make sure the upgrade will not disrupt patients, visitors, or staff. Experienced contractors and engineers will lead the work, and an independent safety expert will oversee the process to ensure everything is done safely.

Signs will be placed on hospital property to let the community know that this work is supported by funding from the Province of Ontario.
