NGH declares rhinovirus outbreak over on 4B Complex Continuing Care Unit
(SIMCOE, ON) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) is pleased to announce that the rhinovirus outbreak on the 4B Complex Continuing Care Unit has been declared over.
During the outbreak, five patients tested positive for rhinovirus.
NGH would like to thank staff on 4B, the housekeeping team and everyone who helped manage the outbreak. Their quick response to new symptoms and additional cleaning helped limit the spread of the virus and protect patients.
Helping us keep patients safe
While the outbreak is over, we continue to ask patients and visitors to take precautions to help prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses.
If you are feeling unwell or have cold or flu symptoms, please stay home and visit when you are feeling better.
NGH also encourages patients and visitors to consider wearing a medical-grade face mask in patient-facing and clinical areas throughout the hospital.
Many of our patients are already dealing with health challenges, and even common respiratory illnesses can make recovery more difficult. Choosing to wear a mask is a simple way to help protect the people around you and support a safer environment for healing.
Thank you to our staff, patients, families and visitors for their patience and understanding during the outbreak and for continuing to help us protect the patients in our care.
