NGH declares rhinovirus outbreak on the 4B Complex Continuing Care Unit
(SIMCOE, ON) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a rhinovirus outbreak on the 4B Complex Continuing Care Unit after two patients tested positive for the virus. Three other patients are experiencing symptoms and are awaiting test results.
To help prevent the spread of the virus, NGH has increased cleaning and is working closely with Grand Erie Public Health to monitor the situation.
Visiting Unit 4B
Families and visitors are still welcome on the 4B unit. However, everyone entering the unit must wear a mask. Masks are available at all hospital entrances.
We know how much it means to spend time with someone you care about, especially when they are in the hospital. To help keep our patients safe, we ask that you consider postponing visits that can wait until the outbreak is over.
If you are feeling unwell or have cold or flu symptoms, please stay home and visit when you are feeling better.
What is rhinovirus?
Rhinovirus is a common virus that causes cold symptoms such as a runny nose, cough and sore throat. While it is usually mild, it can be more serious for people who are already ill.
NGH will continue to monitor the outbreak closely and will share updates as needed.
Thank you for helping us protect the patients in our care.
