New anesthesiologist now practicing at Norfolk General Hospital
Monday, May 1, 2023
Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has made an important addition to its surgical services program through the recruitment of a new anesthesiologist – Dr. Mark Levitan.
Dr. Levitan began practicing at NGH in October of 2022. Anesthesiologists are a vital part of the healthcare system. They are required for surgery, assist in intensive care units, and provide obstetrical care.
Dr. Levitan earned his medical degree at the University of Ottawa and completed his residency in family medicine and anesthesia in Northern Ontario through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
“After residency, my fiancée and I explored various rural towns in Ontario that were looking for an anesthesiologist (including Simcoe), said Dr. Levitan. “We decided that NGH was the best fit for us in terms of its location, the amazing community, and the hospital.”
Since Dr. Levitan’s arrival, he says he has been impressed by the hospital’s excellent surgical program and has thoroughly enjoyed working alongside his talented colleagues at NGH. Dr. Levitan has also been impressed with the beauty that Norfolk County offers.
“Norfolk County is beautiful, and we are excited to continue exploring it this summer. We were particularly drawn to the beautiful trails and beaches, as well as the fantastic breweries, wineries, restaurants, and cafes. There are plenty of events and activities to get involved with and the community has been extremely welcoming. I regularly run on the Lynn Valley Trail and we recently enjoyed Eat & Drink Norfolk.”
NGH continues to recruit physicians across Canada to meet our growing community needs. NGH’s Talent Acquisition team has worked tirelessly to identify and pursue physician recruitment opportunities. They work closely with various community partners, physicians and organizations, including the Norfolk Family Health Team.
“Recruiting physicians and specialists to Norfolk General Hospital continues to be a top priority,” said Dr. Robin Martin-Godelie, Chief of Staff. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Levitan to our hospital and community. We know that there is a national and provincial shortage of anesthesiologists, and we are so grateful that Dr. Levitan chose to work at NGH. I have no doubt that Dr. Levitan will help enhance the patient experience at NGH”
NGH would like to thank all of our anesthesiologists, who have been providing consistent support to these services while vacant positions were being filled.
We would also want to thank the locum physicians who have supported services during this time.
