May 1st is Doctors’ Day

(NGH) Friday, April 29, 2022 – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) is extending its sincere appreciation to all of our physicians and those practicing in the community as we mark Doctors Day on May 1.

Doctors Day is celebrated every May 1 to recognize the province’s doctors and their commitment to improving the health of all patients. May 1 was chosen to mark the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practice medicine in Canada and a founder of the country’s women’s movement.

Whether it’s in a hospital, a long-term care home, a clinic, or at a patient’s home, doctors make a positive difference in the lives of patients by providing the highest quality of care.

At NGH, we are thankful for our physician’s commitment to the highest standards of care. During the pandemic, physicians have adapted to drastic changes in their work and their lives to continue to care for others. Even in the most difficult circumstances, physicians have shown tremendous dedication, courage, and compassion.

“I would like to thank every physician for their unwavering service and care they provide to our community,” said Interim President & CEO, Kim Mullins. “Please know that we see your work and understand your exhaustion. Your resilience is inspiring, despite everything coming your way. We are extremely grateful to have such caring and compassionate physicians who dedicate themselves every day to making a positive impact on our patients and their families in the communities we serve.”

Doctors Day is also an opportunity to welcome physicians who joined the NGH team over the past year and salute doctors who retired and thank them for their service to our community.
