COVID-19 outbreak declared at Norfolk General Hospital’s 4B Unit

(SIMCOE) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on its 4B unit after four patients tested positive for the virus.

Patient safety remains our top priority, and we have swiftly implemented enhanced Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) measures to limit the spread of the virus. These measures include:

  • Isolation of COVID-19 positive patients: Patients who have tested positive or were exposed to COVID-19 are now isolated in their rooms to reduce the risk of transmission.
  • Enhanced cleaning protocols: Cleaning and disinfection efforts have been increased throughout the affected unit to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Contact tracing: A thorough contact tracing process is ongoing to identify and manage individuals who may have been exposed.
  • Symptom monitoring: Patients on the 4B Unit are being closely monitored for symptoms to ensure timely care and intervention.

To protect the health of our patients, staff, and the community, NGH has temporarily restricted visitor access to the 4B Unit. Essential Care Providers (ECPs) may visit after consulting the patient’s care team. We ask for your understanding and respect for our frontline staff as they enforce these restrictions.

We want to reassure the public that NGH is taking every possible step to manage the outbreak and minimize its impact. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support as we work to keep our hospital and community safe.
