Volunteer Association Spaghetti Dinner returns to support patient care at NGH and NHNH
(SIMCOE, ON) – The Volunteer Association to Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH) will host its seventh Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday, October 22, to raise money for equipment and other priority needs at the hospital and nursing home.
Last year, the Volunteer Association donated $120,150 to NGH, its highest annual contribution to the hospital since 2017.
Events like the Spaghetti Dinner, along with proceeds from other Volunteer Association fundraisers and businesses, help make that support possible.
Those funds help purchase equipment used every day in patient and resident care. Over the years, Volunteer Association support has helped purchase wheelchairs, bedside tables, sleep chairs and other equipment across NGH and NHNH.
While provincial funding supports hospital operations at NGH, it does not cover all equipment needs. Community donations and fundraising help the hospital purchase and replace equipment used by patients and care teams.
Several equipment needs are currently being considered for Volunteer Association funding, including vital signs machines, stretchers, beds and a pharmacy cabinet.
“When someone buys a ticket, supports one of our fundraisers or shops at one of our businesses, they are helping support care right here in our community,” said Iris Smith, volunteer and longtime organizer of the Spaghetti Dinner. “That support helps us fund equipment used by patients, residents and the people caring for them every day.”
The Spaghetti Dinner will be held at the Simcoe Legion, 200 West Street, Simcoe.
Dinner seatings are available at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., with takeout available at 4:30 p.m.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger.
Dinner includes Caesar salad, garlic bread, spaghetti with meat sauce, ice cream and a beverage. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available.
Community members who would like to support the Volunteer Association can purchase tickets by contacting Iris Smith at 519-429-8807 or by visiting the volunteer gift shop at Norfolk General Hospital.
