New fundraiser launched to support patient and resident care at NGH and NHNH
Simcoe, ON – When patients or residents come to Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) or the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH), small things can make a big difference.
A comfortable chair for a family member. Equipment that supports care. Items that help patients rest and recover.
At NGH and NHNH, many of these are made possible through community support.
Now, our volunteers are launching a new fundraiser to help continue that work.
They are now introducing Treasures & Totes, a community event that will raise funds for equipment, comfort items, and programs that support patients and residents.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Simcoe Recreation Centre.
The initiative follows the end of the long-running Treasure Mart, which began in 1976 and raised more than $376,000 in support of care at NGH and NHNH.
“We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of our community in providing so many unique and interesting items for our sale. We have also received a number of designer items that will be featured in our Boutique.” The vast majority of items for sale are priced from $5.00 to $20.00, while Boutique items are individually priced.
Over the past several months, community members have donated hundreds of gently used items, including purses, tote bags, scarves, and jewelry. Most items will be priced between $5 and $20, with a small number of higher-value items featured in a boutique section.
Funds raised through the Volunteer Association support care across the hospital and nursing home. This includes equipment and items that improve comfort, support families during visits, and enhance the overall care experience.
Tickets are $25 and include a $20 credit toward purchases at the event, along with a chance to win a diamond and emerald ring valued at $600.
If successful, organizers hope to grow Treasures & Totes into a regular fundraising event to support care close to home.
Tickets are available at the NGH Volunteer Association Gift Shop or by calling 226-440-2042 or 519-426-2495.
The Volunteer Association to NGH and NHNH has already raised more than $85,000 this past fiscal year in support of patient and resident care.
