COVID-19 outbreak declared on 4B at Norfolk General Hospital

Date issued: December 4, 2025

(Simcoe) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the 4B Complex Continuing Care Unit after seven patients tested positive.

We have put strong Infection Prevention and Control measures in place to reduce the spread of the virus. These measures include:

  • Isolation of patients who have tested positive. Patients who have COVID-19 or who may have been exposed are staying in their rooms to reduce the chance of transmission.
  • Enhanced cleaning. We have increased cleaning and disinfection in the unit to help stop the spread of the virus.
  • Contact tracing. Our team is working to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed.
  • Regular symptom checks. Patients on 4B are being monitored for symptoms so they can receive care as soon as possible.
  • Visitor restrictions. To support the safety of patients, staff, and families, visiting on 4B is limited at this time. Essential Care Providers may still visit after speaking with the care team. Essential Care Providers are strongly encouraged to wear a mask when visiting 4B.

We also ask all visitors to stay home if they feel unwell. Even a mild cold or cough can spread easily in the hospital and may cause more serious illness for someone who is already receiving care. Staying home when sick helps protect patients and supports the safety of everyone on the unit.

We understand these changes may be difficult. We ask visitors to be patient and respectful as staff work to support a safe environment for everyone.

NGH is acting quickly to manage the outbreak and reduce the risk to others. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
