COVID-19 outbreak declared on 3E Medical Unit at Norfolk General Hospital
Date issued: November 14, 2025
Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the 3E Medical Unit after four patients tested positive.
Our focus is to keep patients, staff, and families safe. We have put strong Infection Prevention and Control measures in place to reduce the spread of the virus. These measures include:
- Isolation of patients who have tested positive. Patients who have COVID 19 or who may have been exposed are staying in their rooms to reduce the chance of transmission.
- Enhanced cleaning. We have increased cleaning and disinfection in the unit to help stop the spread of the virus.
- Contact tracing. Our team is working to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed.
- Regular symptom checks. Patients on 3E are being monitored for symptoms so they can receive care as soon as possible.
- Visitor restrictions. To support the safety of patients, staff, and families, visiting on 3E is limited at this time. Essential Care Providers may still visit after speaking with the care team.
We ask all visitors to be patient and respectful with staff as these measures are put in place to support safety.
NGH is working quickly to manage the outbreak and reduce the risk to others. We will share more information as it becomes available.
