The Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) Volunteer Association has donated $15,000 to support the highest priority needs at NGH and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH).
This is the Association’s third major presentation this year. Since April, volunteers have donated more than $37,000 to support patient and resident care.
Funds raised through the Volunteer Association’s hospital businesses and annual fundraising events help purchase new medical equipment and provide meaningful touches that bring comfort. Each gift ensures that families across our community continue to receive the best possible care close to home.
This year’s contributions build on the Volunteer Association’s remarkable $91,500 donation last year, which supported the purchase of essential equipment, patient comfort items, and projects that improved care for the people we serve.
“Every dollar raised by our volunteers improves care, and 100 percent of those funds go directly to support patients and residents,” said Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer and Spiritual Care Services. “When you visit NGH or NHNH, you can be confident that volunteers are working behind the scenes to keep care safe, modern, and close to home. Their commitment makes a real difference for every person who comes through our doors.”
The Volunteer Association raises money through the Coffee Kiosk, Craft Group, and Gift Shop, along with events such as the well-known Tag Days. Their next fundraiser, the Association’s 50/50 draw, will be held on October 31. Last year’s winner took home $19,409, and this year’s jackpot is expected to reach more than $20,000.
“Our volunteers are a driving force at NGH and NHNH,” said Todd Stepanuik, President and CEO. “They give their time, their energy, and their compassion. From greeting visitors, to supporting patients, to raising funds, their dedication helps us provide the best possible care close to home. We are truly grateful for everything they do.”
NGH is proud to have one of the highest rates of volunteerism in Ontario. Last year, volunteers gave more than 17,600 hours of service, equal to more than half a million dollars in wages. Their generosity ensures that NGH and NHNH remain strong and vital parts of the community.
