Road construction to impact access to Norfolk General Hospital starting July 30
(SIMCOE) – Access to Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) will temporarily change as Norfolk County begins the next phase of its West Street Reconstruction Project.
On Thursday, July 31, West Street will close between Brook Street and Queen Street, including the Queen/West intersection. The closure is expected to remain in place for several months as work continues on road and underground infrastructure upgrades.
The hospital and Emergency Department will remain open and accessible at all times. Patients, families, and visitors can reach these areas by following the posted detour route.
To support planning and ease of access, NGH is reminding the public that the hospital remains accessible through the Robinson Street main entrance, the West Street entrance, and the Emergency Department entrance. Access from Robinson Street will not be affected. The West Street entrance will remain open and can be reached by following the detour route.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will continue to access the hospital at all times.
“We know construction can be challenging, and we’re asking for the public’s patience as this important infrastructure work moves forward,” said Jason Smith, Director of Facilities and Capital Projects at NGH. “While the road closure is beyond our control, hospital services will not be impacted. Our team remains fully committed to ensuring patients continue to receive safe, timely care throughout the construction period.”
Visitors are encouraged to allow extra time when travelling to the hospital and to follow signage carefully.
NGH will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
