Power restored after brief outage at Norfolk General Hospital
On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Norfolk General Hospital entered a Code Grey following a partial power outage that lasted about 40 minutes.
The outage occurred during a routine generator test when one of the transfer switches failed. During this time, the Emergency Department remained open and continued to provide care to patients.
Throughout the disruption, patient care and safety remained the hospital’s top priority.
Power and all affected systems have been fully restored.
Norfolk General Hospital thanks the Information Technology and Maintenance teams for their quick response in restoring power and systems. The hospital also thanks staff, physicians, patients, partners, and community members for their patience and understanding during the brief outage.
