Simcoe, ON — The Norfolk General Hospital Volunteer Association is celebrating its biggest 50/50 jackpot yet, and so is one of our most dedicated volunteers.
Jane Jarvis of Waterford has won this year’s 50/50 jackpot.
For everyone who knows Jane, this news feels extra special.
Jane has been a steady and caring presence at Norfolk General Hospital for nearly five years. She volunteers in Patient Transfer Services, and helps patients get to and from their appointments. She also serves as the Communications Director on the Volunteer Association Board of Directors.
Jane was in the room when the winning ticket was pulled on October 31. She was there to take photos for the Volunteer Newsletter and expected to capture a joyful moment for someone else. Instead, her own number was called and the room erupted in excitement.
“I was shocked,” Jane said. “I volunteer because I love helping people and making a positive difference. This was a wonderful surprise.”
Jane does not have specific plans for the prize yet. She hopes to do some good with it once the holiday season has passed.
Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer and Spiritual Care Services, says the size of this year’s jackpot reflects the strong support of the community.
“We are grateful for every person who bought a ticket,” Emberlin said. “These funds help us purchase important equipment for patient and resident care at Norfolk General Hospital and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home. The excitement grows each year, and it is inspiring to see how much our volunteers and community care about our hospital and nursing home.”
Since the draw began in 2023, more than $50,000 in prizes have been awarded. Every ticket helps purchase equipment that supports safe and reliable care for patients and families.
“Our volunteers make a real difference every day, and Jane is a perfect example of that spirit,” said Betty Lavallee, Volunteer Association President. “This win could not have happened to a kinder person. We are all celebrating with her. I also want to thank our community for supporting this draw. Every ticket makes a difference and helps us continue to care for patients and families.”
Norfolk General Hospital is thrilled for Jane and grateful to everyone who took part in this year’s draw. Your support created a moment that Jane and our volunteer family will always remember.
Details about the next draw will be shared soon. You never know whose name will be called next.
