COVID-19 outbreak declared on the 3B Medical-Surgical Unit at Norfolk General Hospital
Date issued: December 12, 2025
(Simcoe, ON) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the 3B Medical-Surgical Unit after three patients tested positive.
Our priority is to protect the health and well-being of everyone on the unit. We have put strong Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) measures in place to reduce the spread of the virus. These measures include:
- Isolation of patients who have tested positive. Patients with COVID-19, or who may have been exposed, are staying in their rooms to reduce the chance of transmission.
- Enhanced cleaning. Cleaning and disinfection have increased throughout the unit.
- Contact tracing. Our team is working to identify and notify anyone who may have been exposed.
- Regular symptom checks. Patients on 3B are being monitored closely so they can receive care as soon as possible.
- Visitor restrictions. Visiting on 3B is restricted at this time to support the safety of patients, staff, and families. Essential Care Providers may continue to visit after speaking with the care team and must wear a mask when on the unit.
We also ask all visitors to stay home if they feel unwell. Even a mild cold or cough can spread easily in a hospital setting and may cause more serious illness for someone who is already vulnerable. Staying home when sick is one of the most important ways you can help protect patients and support our teams.
NGH is acting quickly to manage the outbreak and reduce the risk to others. We will share updates as more information becomes available.
