Patient Services

3B or 3E Helper
Under the direction of the Clinical Practice Lead (CPL), assist staff in the area with various tasks including interactive activities with patients. Times vary.

4B Helper
Under the direction of the Activation Coordinator/CPL, assist with one-on-one activities, feeding, or participate in various group activities (walking, reading, bingo, outings). Times vary.

Emergency Department Liaison
Provide support and direction for the patients, families and their friends during their stay in Emergency, and support staff in the area by enhancing communication within the department. Staffed daily with several shift times available.

Emergency Helper
Under the direction of the CPL, assist staff in the area with various tasks. Times vary.

Patient Transfer Services (Internal)
Transport patients in a wheelchair who are being admitted or discharged from the hospital; deliver goods that come into the hospital for patients and residents. Weekdays with two shift times available.

Nursing Home Helper
Under the direction of the Activation Coordinator/CPL, assist with one-on-one activities, feeding, or participate in various group activities (walking, reading, bingo, outings). Times vary.

Palliative Care
As members of the multi-disciplinary team, collaborate to provide emotional and practical support to the patient and their family members. Specific training provided. Times vary including on-call.

Surgical Day Care Helper
Provide refreshments and comfort to patients recovering from day surgery and assist staff with various tasks as required. Staffed weekday mornings.

Administrative Services

2nd Floor Information Desk
Welcome the visitors and patients of NGH to the 2nd Floor with a smile and provide directions and/or escort the to Intensive Care, Pre-Op, Day Surgery or the Stress Clinics. Staffed weekdays with two shift times available.

Main Information Desk
Welcome people to NGH/NHNH with a smile and provide patients and visitors entering with accurate directions and information. Staffed daily with several shift times available.

Office Helper
Assist in the volunteer or other areas with various assignments as directed. Computer skills are required. Shift times vary.

Financial Services

Coffee Kiosk
Assist with the running of the volunteer’s Coffee Kiosk by selling coffee and various other items to patients, residents, staff and visitors; restock product and clean area. Open daily with several shift times available.

Craft Group
For crafty people to display their talents at Treasure Mart and various sales throughout the year. Optional meetings held on the 3rd Wednesday morning of each month.

Gift Shop
Assist with the running of the volunteer’s gift shop by selling various items to patients, residents, staff and visitors. Open daily with several shifts available.

H.E.L.P.P. Lottery (Hospital Equipment Lottery Project for People)
Sell break-open lottery tickets within the hospital. Shifts vary.

Fundraising

Annual 50/50 Draw Tickets (18 and over)
Association fundraiser for all branches. Assist with ticket sales at various events in the area or on their own.

Fashion Show
Port Dover branch annual event. Assist with organization and participate in modeling fashions. Usually in May.

Gift Wrapping
Simcoe branch annual event. Wrap Christmas gifts during the month of December. Several shifts available.

Tag Days
Each branch organizes this yearly event to raise funds by offering tags for donations at various designated locations.

Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home

Nursing Home Helper
Under the direction of the Activation Coordinator/CPL, assist with one-on-one activities, feeding, or participate in various group activities (walking, reading, bingo, outings). Times vary.

Other

Garden Helper
Help maintain and improve the beauty of the landscaping of NGH and NHNH by cleaning flowerbeds, pruning shrubs and organic weeding. Seasonal.



Grade One Tours
Conduct tours of the hospital for Grade One students from Norfolk. Shifts will vary; weekday mornings in the month of May.

Special Events
From time to time, special events may be organized in which the volunteers participate, i.e. open house, radio-a-thon parades, etc.
