(NGH) – December 21, 2022 – The Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) Volunteer Association recently presented a cheque for $20,000 to the hospital. The funds will go toward supporting the highest priorities at NGH.

“Every dollar raised through the Volunteer Association ensures NGH can continue to provide access to high-quality healthcare close to home,” said Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer & Spiritual Care Services. “Everything we do as volunteers is to ultimately help our patients, so investing in new medical equipment will mean better, more accurate care for patients and families that we serve.”

The money was raised based on revenue from the Volunteer Association’s two hospital businesses – the Coffee Kiosk and the Gift shop – as well as proceeds from Treasure Mart, which raised more than $12,500 for the association. The Volunteer Association also holds several fundraising initiatives throughout the year.

“We are so grateful to have our amazing volunteers,” said Todd Stepanuik, president and CEO. “Our volunteers do so much for the hospital and the nursing home. Whether it’s the friendly face you see when you first walk in our doors, fundraising for equipment, helping patients find their way around the hospital, serving coffee at our coffee kiosk, or escorting patients after a procedure, we really couldn’t do what we do without them. They are an integral part of the NGH and NHNH family, and we couldn’t be more thankful for them and proud of them.”

NGH is recognized as having one of the highest rates of volunteerism in Ontario. The NGH Volunteer Association donates over 40,000 hours to the hospital and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home each year – the equivalent of more than $800,000 in wages.
