(Simcoe) – The Norfolk General Hospital Volunteer Association has made a significant contribution, donating $42,332 to advance critical initiatives at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH). This donation, a result of the Volunteer Association’s dedicated efforts, will specifically enhance the patient experience and replace aging equipment and furniture.
Items purchased with the funds include beds, mattresses, laparoscopic equipment, delivery carts, overbed tables, and additional furniture. Kerri Emberlin, Director of Volunteer & Spiritual Care Services, expressed, “Every dollar raised through the Volunteer Association supports NGH and the NHNH in continuing to provide access to high-quality healthcare close to home. Investing in new medical equipment means better, more accurate care for our patients and families.”
The money was raised based on revenue from the Volunteer Association’s three hospital businesses – the Coffee Kiosk, the Craft Group and the Gift shop – community fundraisers such as Treasure Mart, as well as proceeds from a highly successful 50/50 draw which raised more than $12,000 for the association. The Volunteer Association also holds several fundraising initiatives throughout the year.
“We are so grateful to have our amazing volunteers,” said Todd Stepanuik, President and CEO. “Our volunteers do so much for the hospital and the nursing home. Whether it’s the friendly face you see when you first walk in our doors, fundraising for equipment, helping patients find their way around the hospital, serving coffee at our coffee kiosk, or transferring patients after a procedure, we really couldn’t do what we do without them. They are an integral part of the NGH and NHNH family, and we couldn’t be more thankful for them and proud of them.”
NGH, recognized for one of the highest rates of volunteerism in Ontario, benefits from over 20,000 volunteer hours annually, equivalent to more than $600,000 in wages. The NGH Volunteer Association continues to make a lasting impact, contributing to the hospital’s mission.
