Norfolk General Hospital eases visitor restrictions
Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) is easing visitor restrictions and will move into Phase 3 of its visitor policy effective Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
Here is what you need to know:
Masking: Visitors will continue to be required to wear medical-grade masks (no cloth masks) upon entry to the hospital, which will be provided. Medical-masks will be available from mask dispensers at designated hospital entrances. Visitors must also wash their hands before entering and leaving a patient’s room.
Inpatients: Patients admitted to the hospital (inpatients) have no restrictions on total number of visitors in a day, but inpatients can only have TWO visitors at their bedside at a time. All visitors must pass self-screening prior to entry. Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Children under the age of 12 may visit if they are supervised and able to mask.
Outpatients: Patients attending ambulatory visits may have one person accompany them during the visit. The department reserves the right to temporarily restrict visitors to specific areas if needed.
Obstetrical Patients: Patients may have two visitors at their bedside at a time and have no time frame.
Emergency Department Care: Patients may have two visitors at their bedside at a time. *Please note that visitors in the Emergency Department may be asked to leave if the number of visitors impacts the ability of patients to enter the department and get medical attention.
Surgical Day Care Patients: One designated support person is permitted to support the patient upon discharge.
Food & Beverage:
- The NGH Cafeteria is limited to take-out packaged options only. Following COVID-19 requirements, cafeteria seating areas are for staff use only.
- The Coffee & Crumbs café is open to dine in and take-out options.
We will continue to ask visitors not to enter the hospital if they are experiencing any illness, including COVID-19 symptoms or are a high-risk contact of a confirmed case. Hospitalized patients are often immunocompromised and it is important that visitors are diligent in protecting their own family, and friends as well as the other neighbouring patients.
