Norfolk General Hospital closes COVID-19 vaccination clinic after 16-month run
(NGH) Thursday, June 23, 2022 – Effective June 24, 2022, the COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) will be giving its last shot.
Over the past 16 months, NGH staff have given out more than 56,000 doses – approximately a quarter of the COVID-19 vaccinations provided across Haldimand and Norfolk.
“We know, given our rural area and limited resources, that we could not have achieved the vaccine rollout and COVID-19 testing we did without this collaborative partnership with NGH,” said Kristal Chopp, chair of the Haldimand and Norfolk Board of Health. “Over and over, our local hospital has shown the ability to mobilize its expert staff to provide innovative and compassionate care to our community – even in the middle of a worldwide pandemic – and for that, the Board and I are truly grateful.”
This change is in alignment with local partners as the transition to the ‘new normal’ of the COVID-19 pandemic begins, wherein vaccinations will be part of our overall community health programs.
“The hospital’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic has been essential and critical to the success of the vaccine rollout in Haldimand-Norfolk,” said Kim Mullins, Interim President and CEO of Norfolk General Hospital. “Thanks to the support of the entire vaccination team, we’ve been able to successfully bring vaccines to thousands of people in our communities. I am very proud of their exceptional dedication to the health and safety of the communities they serve.”
NGH is grateful to all members of the community who have supported the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic since February 18, 2021.
“People came together under challenging circumstances to organize and operate the NGH COVID-19 vaccination clinic, which administered more than 56,000 vaccinations to our community,” said David Liu, Director of Pharmacy and Clinical Lead. “I am so proud of our staff and volunteers at NGH who were able to help make a significant difference. NGH played a leadership role in our mass vaccination clinic, showcasing collaboration and leadership within our organization. This has truly been a collaborative effort across Haldimand-Norfolk with our Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit partners.”
Residents will continue to have access to COVID-19 vaccines at many locations in Haldimand and Norfolk. Additional information, including how to book an appointment, can be found at hnhu.org/popup.
