Influenza A outbreak declared on 4B
Date issued: Wednesday, March 20, 2024
(Simcoe) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared an Influenza A outbreak on the 4B Complex Continuing Care Unit. The outbreak was declared on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, with a total of three patients affected.
To protect our patients, staff, physicians, and the wider community, NGH has implemented temporary visitor restrictions on the unit. Only Essential Care Providers (ECPs), in coordination with the patient’s care team, will be granted access.
We recognize the challenges these restrictions pose for family and friends wishing to visit their loved ones. We encourage the use of digital communication tools to maintain connections during this time.
As we continue to see COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases in our area, we urge everyone to follow health guidance closely. This includes not visiting patients in the hospital if you’re sick, wearing masks in public if you’re unwell, and ensuring your vaccines are up to date by speaking with your doctor.
Our priority at Norfolk General Hospital is the health and safety of all our patients, staff, and the community. We are grateful for your patience and support.
Please be aware that there is also an ongoing Influenza A outbreak in our 3E unit. For further information, click here
