Influenza A outbreak declared on 3E
Date issued: Thursday, March 14, 2024
(Simcoe) – Norfolk General Hospital has declared an Influenza A outbreak on the 3E Medical Unit. The outbreak was declared on Thursday, March 14, 2024, with a total of two patients affected.
To protect our patients, staff, physicians, and the wider community, NGH has implemented temporary visitor restrictions on the unit. Only Essential Care Providers (ECPs), in coordination with the patient’s care team, will be granted access.
We recognize the challenges these restrictions pose for family and friends wishing to visit their loved ones. We encourage the use of digital communication tools to maintain connections during this time.
With COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses still present in our community, we strongly recommend adhering to the advice provided by healthcare experts. This advice includes not visiting patients in the hospital if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness, wearing a mask when you need to be in public spaces while not feeling well, and consulting your primary care physician to verify that your vaccinations are up to date.
Norfolk General Hospital is committed to ensuring the health and safety of everyone within our facility and appreciates the community’s support and understanding during this period.
