COVID-19 Outbreak declared on the 3-E Medical Unit
April 8, 2023
Norfolk General Hospital (NGH), in consultation with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit, has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the 3E Medical unit.
As per the province’s directive two or more linked positive cases of COVID-19 within a 14-day period is to be considered an outbreak. An outbreak is declared when there is evidence of transmission of the disease within the hospital on a single unit. Declaring an outbreak allows additional measures to work toward preventing further transmission.
As a result, visitors are no longer permitted to enter the unit, except for Essential Care Providers (ECPs) in consultation with the patient’s care team.
To ensure patients have the support they need, patients will be allowed two designated ECPs; however, only one ECP will be allowed at a time.
Enhanced infection prevention and control measures have been implemented.
A reminder that NGH continues to uphold a universal mandatory masking policy. Every person entering the hospital is required to wear a hospital-provided mask while inside. Masks can be found at each entrance of the hospital. A reminder to also self-screen before coming to the hospital.
For the safety and well-being of everyone in the hospital, we also ask that you do not visit if you feel unwell or have symptoms such as cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, or a new rash.
