COVID-19 Outbreak declared at Norfolk General Hospital’s 3E Unit

(NGH) Friday, April 29, 2022 – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the 3E Medical Unit after seven patients tested positive for the virus.

NGH has implemented comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) precautions. COVID-positive patients are being isolated to their rooms, enhanced cleaning has been implemented, contact tracing is ongoing, and patients are being monitored closely for COVID-19 symptoms.

Visitors are no longer permitted to enter the unit, except for Essential Care Providers (ECPs) in consultation with the patient’s care team. These temporary measures are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to ensure the safety of our patients, staff, physicians, and the community. Please be respectful to our frontline teams when discussing visitor restrictions.

Currently, we are experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak on the 3B Medical/Surgical Unit as well.

We want to reassure the public that NGH is working diligently to control and contain these outbreaks and using our expertise and resources as efficiently as possible.
