COVID-19 Outbreak declared at Norfolk General Hospital’s 3E Medical Unit –
Thursday, November 23, 2023 – (SIMCOE) – Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak within its 3E Medical Unit, following confirmed cases of the virus among two patients.
In accordance with our unwavering commitment to patient safety, we have implemented rigorous Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) measures to mitigate further spread of the virus. These measures include:
- Isolation of COVID-19 Positive Patients: COVID-19 positive and exposed patients are now isolated within their respective rooms, ensuring their safety and preventing any potential transmission.
- Enhanced Cleaning Protocols: NGH has heightened its cleaning and disinfection procedures throughout the affected unit to maintain a sterile environment and minimize the risk of infection.
- Contact Tracing: A thorough and ongoing contact tracing effort is underway to identify and isolate individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.
- Symptom Monitoring: Patients within the 3E Medical Unit are under constant observation for COVID-19 symptoms to ensure timely intervention and care.
To safeguard the well-being of our patients, staff, physicians, and the broader community, NGH has made the difficult but necessary decision to restrict visitor access to the affected unit. This restriction applies to all visitors, with the exception of Essential Care Providers (ECPs), who may visit following consultation with the patient’s care team. Please be respectful to our frontline teams when discussing visitor restrictions.
We want to reassure the public that NGH is working diligently to control and contain these outbreaks and using our expertise and resources as efficiently as possible. We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
