COVID-19 Immunization Clinic celebrates 50,000th dose
February 3, 2022
The Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) COVID-19 immunization clinic is celebrating another milestone. The NGH vaccination team has now administered more than 50,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since the clinic opened on Jan. 15, 2021. As of Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, the NGH COVID-19 immunization clinic has administered 50, 263 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force and our community partners.
David Liu, Director of Pharmacy, reflects on the beginning of the clinic and what this milestone means for NGH.
“We are incredibly happy to reach this milestone,” said Liu. “When we were planning for the vaccine clinic more than a year ago, we didn’t know what to expect. We started our soft launch on Jan. 15, 2021, with 70 residents of long-term care facilities and health care providers and we have come so far since then. As we were creating appointments, it was hard to imagine getting to a place where we would be vaccinating over 400 people a day. We’ve been able to accomplish that and run the clinic like clockwork and that’s because we have an incredible team and wonderful partnerships in our community.”
On January 12, 2021, Norfolk General Hospital and the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit (HNHU) received the first shipment of the Health Canada approved Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. This was a day of hope for many and marked a critical turning point in the pandemic.
In total, 192,875 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered across Haldimand-Norfolk and nearly 66,000 people are fully vaccinated to date, according to the Health Unit’s website. Thousands of lives have been saved and millions have been protected from becoming severely ill from COVID-19 across Ontario.
Norfolk General Hospital would like to thank everyone in Haldimand-Norfolk who has done their part by getting vaccinated. Thank you.
NGH encourages those who are already vaccinated to get a booster shot to maximize their immunity against COVID-19 and help prevent the spread of new variants like omicron. Adults 18+ who had their second dose at least 84 days prior are eligible for a booster. Appointments for the clinic can be booked by clicking here.
