Norfolk General Hospital has ward (four beds per room), semi-private (two beds per room) and private (one bed per room) accommodation. Your Ontario Health Insurance provides you with ward accommodation. There is an additional charge for semi-private ($205.00) and private ($230.00) rooms. If you request a semi-private or private room and have insurance coverage for semi-private or private accommodation, the hospital will send an invoice to your insurance company for your stay in hospital. You may still request a semi-private or private room if you do not have insurance coverage but the hospital will bill you directly for the daily rate, multiplied by the number of days you are in the room. Your bill is due and payable when you leave the hospital. The hospital accepts cash, VISA, MasterCard or Interac. Account payments can also be made online.

The hospital has a limited number of semi-private and private rooms. The hospital will do its best to admit you to the type of accommodation you request. Unfortunately this is not always possible. Private rooms are often used for patients who need to be isolated for medical reasons or to provide patients and their family's privacy and dignity when death is expected. Sometimes patients who were admitted before you occupy these rooms. We appreciate your understanding and patience if you are not assigned the type of room you requested.

Telephones are available at each bedside, except for beds in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and the Step-Down unit. Telephone service is free for the first 24 hours of your stay. This time is provided so you or your family can make arrangements to pay for the telephone service. The cost of the telephone service is $20.00 for each stay in hospital. Long distance calls must be arranged through the Operator and charged to your calling card, credit card or home telephone. The hospital will not accept collect calls to your room. The telephone service is arranged through the Patient Registration Department and must be paid in advance at the Patient Registration desk in the Emergency Department. The hospital accepts cash, VISA, MasterCard, or Interac. For the comfort of all patients, incoming calls will not be accepted for patients between the hours of 10pm and 8am.


Entertainment and TV rental services are available right at the bedside, provided by HealthHub Patient Engagement SolutionsPatients or their loved ones can either complete the rental process anytime on the bedside terminal or by visiting is available 24/7 to also help answer questions related to local channel guides and to request customer service assistance.
