Precautionary measures in effect
Simcoe, ON – Norfolk General Hospital has identified five cases of hospital associated Clostridium Difficile (C. difficile) infections since the beginning of September). Hospital staff is working diligently to bring this under control.
Control measures in the hospital include isolation of all patients with C. difficile and increased cleaning. The hospital will also be using a strengthened disinfectant in all C. difficile patient rooms.
Visitors will be required to abide by infection control precautions and must check in with the nursing staff before visiting a patient in isolation. If you must visit, please restrict yourself from all other patient areas of the hospital including the gift shop, cafeteria and coffee kiosk.
At this time with increased social activities and family gatherings it is extremely important to practice good hand hygiene. When visiting the hospital please wash your hands thoroughly at the hand sanitizing stations.
We hope to provide as much information as possible to our patients, families, and the community, and until the C. difficile outbreak is declared over, we will continue to release new information to our local media as it becomes available.
