Gastric Outbreak Declared on 4B Unit

Simcoe, ON – Immediate measures are in effect at Norfolk General Hospital following a gastrointestinal outbreak. At this time, three patients and three staff members have shown symptoms of gastrointestinal illnesses. These symptoms include vomiting and (or) diarrhea. Cases are confined to the 4B unit of the hospital. Testing of symptomatic patients is ongoing.

Control measures include patient isolation, closure to 4B admissions, enhanced cleaning and visitor restrictions. We discourage family and friends from visiting the 4B unit. If you feel you must visit, please contact the unit in advance at extension 4221. Only one visitor at a time will be allowed.

Proper hand hygiene is essential when entering or exiting our hospital and during all moments of patient contact. Please wash your hands thoroughly or use one of our many hand sanitizing stations.

The health care team at NGH regards each and every patient as a unique individual deserving the best of our care. The hospital will manage this outbreak with the most aggressive infection prevention and control measures.
