The Visiting Hour Policy at the Norfolk General Hospital is as follows:

Daily visiting hours are from noon to 8:00 p.m. with the exclusion of 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. which is designated as a quiet time/rest period for patients. We encourage visitors to respect this quiet time/rest period.  Visiting hours for Patients in the Slow Stream Rehabilitation Program begins at 3:00p.m. daily.

At Norfolk General Hospital, safety, security and the well-being of our patients is a priority. To ensure an environment where patients may rest and receive one on one health-care, we strongly advise guests to respect our patient visiting hours and quiet time. During non-visiting hours, please be advised, most patient care areas have controlled access. During these hours, visitors are not permitted to enter. Exemptions are at the discretion of the Unit Nurse.

  • The number of visitors at one time per patient in the Patient Care Units is limited to two.
  • One visitor per patient is permitted in the Emergency Department.
  • Two visitors are permitted in the Labour and Delivery Suite at any time providing these visitors are consistent throughout the labour and delivery time.
  • Visitors may attend palliative care patients, paediatric patients and patients for compassionate reasons at any time.
  • Exceptions to this policy for special circumstances are at the discretion of the hospital staff. We appreciate your co-operation.
  • All visitors are asked to wash their hands upon arrival at the hospital, and after visiting a patient. Please use hand sanitizing stations throughout the hospital.

Please note that visitors are not permitted in the Norfolk General Hospital if they have any of the following symptoms:

  • cough
  • fever
  • sore throat
  • runny nose
  • diarrhea
